When there is moisture in the stone or uneven heating, it may break or pop. Make sure the rocks are completely dry before placing them in the fire pit or fireplace. When using lava rocks in fire pit, with a small fire to slowly increase its temperature and then gradually increase the heat, it will dries the rocks slowly and avoids uneven heating.

We recommend a minimum 2" of fire glass depth for most installations.

Fire Glass Uses

Fire glass is often used in outdoor fire pits, fire bowls and fire tables. It can be used exclusively or placed on top of a base layer of fire rock or sand. Replace the faux logs in your indoor or outdoor gas fireplace with fire glass for a clean, attractive ambience. Fire glass is also perfect for flower arrangements, vase fillers, walkways, water features, exposed aggregate flooring or walls, swimming pool areas and many other areas.

How to Save on the Cost of Your Fire Glass

Lava Rock is inexpensive when compared to fire glass. You could use a one-inch deep lava rock layer to initially cover your burner pan. This will reduce the glass depth needed by one inch. This can be applied to any fire pit or fireplace, no matter what size and make a considerable saving over the cost of using fire glass throughout. However, using lava rock as a base material may cause some soot build up on your fire glass, so periodic rinsing and drying is recommended.
